Autumn is well underway, fallen leaves are carpeting the ground, and Halloween is just around the corner! It’s the perfect time to get together for a fun, creative, and eco-friendly activity.

Today, we’re sharing a very simple tutorial to transform your ordinary toilet paper or paper towel rolls into a stunning glowing miniature village. A fantastic way to upcycle while creating a warm, cozy, and slightly mysterious atmosphere in your home.

🛠️ Supplies You’ll Need

To craft this haunted village, you only need everyday items:

  • Cardboard tubes (toilet paper or paper towel rolls cut to size)

  • Paint (preferably black and orange) & brushes

  • Scissors or a craft knife

  • Black cardstock/construction paper (for the roofs)

  • Pencil

  • LED tea light candles (100% safe for kids!)

✂️ Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Outline the shapes

Using a pencil, draw doors (arched shapes) and small square or arched windows onto each roll. Vary the shapes to give each house its own character.

2. Cut out the windows and doors

Carefully cut out the doors and windows using scissors or a craft knife.

Tip: If you’re doing this craft with children, handle the cutting step for them.

3. Paint & Decorate

Paint your cardboard rolls! The combination of raven black and pumpkin orange works wonders for a Halloween vibe. Let them dry for a few minutes.

4. Make the roofs

On your black paper, cut out circles, then make a slit to the center of each circle to fold them into cones. You can add scale patterns (like roof tiles) or cut out battlements to make castle towers. Glue them to the top of the rolls.

5. Light it up

Place a small LED tea light candle under each tube. Watch the magic happen: the light shines through the windows, casting a soft golden glow!

🍂 Staging & Decorating Ideas

To showcase your village:

  • Display it on a entryway console, a window sill, or as a table centerpiece.

  • Surround it with dried autumn leaves, mini pumpkins, and cinnamon sticks for an extra cozy fall feel.

Now it’s your turn! Excited to try this project this weekend? Tell us in the comments what colors you’d pick for your village! 🎃✨
